Cornelius Gaines was born on June 20, 1960, in Possum Neck, MS, to Josephine (Gaines) Roberson and Arthur Cottrell. He was raised in Attala County, MS.

Cornelius moved to Rochester, NY, where he was educated and found recovery.

He connected with many loving people and was always willing to share his knowledge. After moving back to Kosciusko, MS, he was employed with Tyson Foods, Wendy's Restaurant and other employers.

Cornelius was known for his wit, life experience, and love of fishing.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Roberson; his sister, JoAnn Erving; and his oldest brother, Leroy Roberson.

Those left to cherish Cornelius memories are two sisters: Bernardine Council, Kosciusko, MS and Gloria Jean Harton, Freeport, IL; four nieces: April Roberson, Atlanta, GA; Brandi Carter, Kosciusko, MS; Ann Marie Erving, Worcester, MA and Jeanette Erving, Chesterfield, VA; his close friend Wayne Collins of Rochester, NY; and the family of Jerry Felton. A host of other loving relatives and friends.
