Obituary for Mae Doris Burton

Mae Doris Burton was born on April 8, 1948, in Gadsden, Alabama, to the late Mrs. Mattie Ruth Gray and the late Mr. Marvin Jr. Gray.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and faithfully united with St. Paul Overcoming Church of God, where she remained a devoted and steadfast member throughout her life.
She received her education at Carver High School, graduating in 1967, and later continued her studies at Alabama Technical College. She began her professional journey in healthcare, where she was known for her compassion, kindness, and genuine passion for caring for others.
In 1970, Mae Doris was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Alfred T. Burton, Jr., the love of her life. Through his distinguished military career, they were blessed to travel extensively, creating over 56 years of cherished memories filled with love, devotion, and unwavering commitment to one another.
In later years, she transitioned into a career in banking, faithfully serving at Regions Bank for over 30 years. Her strong work ethic, dedication, and spirit of excellence were evident throughout her career until her retirement.
On April 13, 2026, Mae Doris Burton peacefully transitioned from this life at her residence, surrounded by the comfort and love of home.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, the late Mr. Marvin Jr. Gray and the late Mrs. Mattie Ruth Gray; and her siblings, the late Marvin Jr. Gray, the late Carl Gray, and the late Ms. Joyce Gray.
She leaves to cherish her precious and loving memory her devoted husband, Mr. Alfred T.
Burton, Jr.; her daughter, Angela (Yaovi) Darrah-Koudjawoo of Gadsden, Alabama; and her son, Timothy (Lori) Burton of Gadsden, Alabama.She is also survived by her brothers, J.C. (Mary) Gray of West Palm Beach, Florida, and John Clifford (Gloria) Bledsoe of Lafayette, Alabama; and her sister, Johnnie Mae (Lynwood) Boyd of Lafayette, Alabama.
She also leaves her cherished grandchildren: TaShona Steward, Dedrionne Burton, Daisha Jones, Timera Burton, Alexis Burton, Kelom Darrah-Koudjawoo, and Amari Burton, all of Gadsden, Alabama.
Her legacy is further carried on through her beloved great-grandchildren: Shoni, Thomas III, Breland, Dedrionne ]r., Zhander, DaMarion, Jeaux'L, and Darling, all of Gadsden, Alabama.
She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loving relatives and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
