From the moment she entered this world, she carried light that could not be contained. A true ray of sunshine, Julia M. Gordon, of Seale, Alabama, was born on January 12, 1950, to the parentage of the late Alberta and John Henry Lewis. On April 15, 2026, a beloved ray returned to heaven as Julia departed her earthly life. She will forever be remembered for the light she brought into our lives.

Known to brighten every space with her joyful spirit, Julia M. Gordon lived a life deeply rooted in faith, love, and service. During her earthly life, she served 17 years with the Russell County School District Child Nutrition Program and became a Lifetime Member of the Order of Eastern Stars. Julia lived as a devoted woman of God who found great joy in praising His name, especially through singing in the choir. Her voice was not only heard in song but felt in the spirit of those around her. When she wasn’t at church, Julia could be found fishing and lovingly tending to her plants, nurturing them with patience and care—a reflection of how she cared for her family and friends.

Julia was a guiding light as she effortlessly uplifted others, being a source of comfort and a safe place for those who knew her. Whether through her smile, her words, or her quiet acts of generosity, she had a special gift for making others feel accepted, reminding them that being themselves was more than enough. Though her earthly journey has come to a close, the radiance she brought into this world—her love, wisdom, and gentle strength—will continue to shine forever in the hearts of those she touched.

Julia was preceded in death by her brothers, Roosevelt Browder, Henry Lewis, Jr., and Johnnie Lee Lewis; her sisters, Queen Ester Porter, Doris Lewis, and Mary LeBeaux; and her grandson, Matthew Brooks.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving daughters, Charlotte Gordon and DeShondra Jones; one sister, Loretta Stevens; one brother, Ronald Lewis (Penny); and a host of grandchildren: Oveyana Gordon (LaKeya), Jimmy Walton (Ebony), Gabrielle Brooks, Jernisha Brooks, Kelton Grady, Darius Pollard, Jake James, Longino Cruell, Ebony James, Jaleel Howard, and Christian Stone; nine great-grandchildren; adopted daughter, First Lady Elect Cynthia (Pastor Roy) Jones; and many other relatives and dear friends.
