With heavy hearts and loving memories, we celebrate the life of James Diontrez Johnson, who was born on July 21, 2001, in Chicago, Illinois, to James “Chucky” Johnson II and Nadia Tate.

James graduated from Cordova High School and continued his education by earning his HVAC Certificate at Delta Technical Institution. Throughout his life, he demonstrated determination, loyalty, and a deep love for his family and friends.

James was a devoted son, brother, father and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved 11-month daughter, Kali, who was the light of his life. He was immensely proud to be her father and embraced his role with love and dedication. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Nadia Tate; his father, James “Chucky” Johnson; his brother, Jeremy Johnson; his nephew, Jeremy Johnson, Jr.; his aunts, Latoya Griffin Bell, Sheena Tate, and Sonja Johnson (Daniel) Brisard; special aunties: Laquon and Kirsti; special uncles: Keith, Gerik, Tavis, Mike, Will, Anthony and Bert; cousins: Sigourney, Hailey, Ajani, Jonathan, Alexaundra, Nikki, LuLu and Jamal; his Grandmother, Sandra Tate; his great-uncles, Darrell Griffin and James Griffin, his great-aunts, Ida Ruth (Willie) Fields, Mable (Isaac) Presley, Opal Duncan and Frances Tate; his Godparents, Duryea and Benita Williams.

James also shared a special bond with his chosen brothers and lifelong friends: Andre Love, Bachir Balde, Bobby Williams, Gabe Amerson, Jordan Ross, Justin Jefferson, Lorenzo Fain, Marshawn Williams, and Oakley Miller who stood beside him through many of life's moments.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Buford Tate; grandmother, Monica Johnson; great grandmother, Dannie Griffin and special auntie, Cecilia “CeCe” Duncan.

James will always be remembered for his respectful spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for those around him. Growing up, everyone knew that James enjoyed food. He had a healthy appetite and could always be counted on to enjoy a good meal, often finishing his food long before anyone else at the table. His family fondly recalls how he wasted little time chewing and rarely came up for air while eating.

A natural protector, James, looked after his mother and younger brother. His love for Jeremy was evident, and he affectionately referred to him simply as “brother." His caring nature and sense of responsibility were characteristics that touched everyone who knew him.

James was also a proud member of the Omega Lamplighters, an organization that helped shape his commitment to leadership, service, and personal growth.

Although his time with us was far too short, the love, laughter, and memories he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, and devotion to family will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Mr. James Johnson was born on July 21,2001 and died on July 12, 2026. Graveside services will be held at Faith and Deliverance Apostolic Cemetery, Carthage, MS. Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 11::00am.
