Funeral service for Johnie Knight, 79, of Opelika, AL, will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Creekstand Freewill Non-Denominational Church, 672 Lee Road 40, Opelika, AL 36801 with interment in the church cemetery, Bishop Henry Ligon, Pastor and Officiating, Reverend Johnny Freeman, Eulogist.
Mrs. Knight, who passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026 at the Bethany House in Auburn, AL, was born July 1, 1947, in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Friday, July 31, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Mrs. Knight will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Krystal Staples, Stephen “Bubba” (Kavia) Staples both of Opelika, AL and Jonathan (Bobbi) Staples of Salem, OR; seven grandchildren, Antoine Staples, Anthony “Quay” Gardner, Jaquavious “Tae” (Catorsha) Frazier, Kenneth Williams, Kelsey Staples, Zynique Staples and Serenity Staples; great-grandchildren, Kaleb Frazier and Cashtyn Edwards; four cousins as siblings, Lizzie “Sister” (Johnny) Porter, Robert “Tig” Wilson both of Salem, AL, Walter “Oogie” (Georgia) Wilson and David “Smug” (Virginia) Wilson both Opelika, AL; god-daughter, Linda Porter of Salem, AL; uncle, Elder (Doris) Knight of Opelika, AL; five sisters-in-law, Barbara Howard of Cincinnati, OH, Ella (Rex) Huffman, Patricia (Fred) Bennett, Diane (Lester) Whitlow all of Auburn, AL and Rita Black of Phenix City, AL; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth (LaShawna) Black of Chattanooga, TN and Spencer Black of Opelika, AL; a host of other relatives, classmates and friends.
