Kenneth “Kenny” Gibbs

October 26, 1944 – July 25, 2026

Kenneth “Kenny” Gibbs was born on October 26, 1944, in Oriental, North Carolina; to the late Dallas Raymond Topping and the late Emma Leona Gibbs - Topping.

On Saturday, July 25, 2026 Kenneth transitioned from this earthly life at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York City.

Kenneth attended the Pamlico County School System in North Carolina. At the age of fourteen, he relocated to New York City, where he continued his education and built a life rooted in hard work, perseverance, and dedication.

Throughout his life, Kenny held several positions and took pride in every job he performed. He worked for many years in the editorial department at Wells, Rich, Greene Advertising. He worked as a stock clerk at Paul’s Supermarket, a Presser at Clyde’s Cleaners, and later as a Prep Chef at the Melrose Mott Haven Senior Citizens Center.

Kenny never married and had no children, but he was deeply loved by his family and cherished the relationships he shared with his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Raymond Topping and Emma Leona Gibbs-Topping, as well as three brothers Ronald Topping, Dallas Topping and Sylvester Topping “Big West”. Three sisters: Beatrice Cambian, Juliette Topping and Melody Johnson.

Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory seven sisters: Ernestine, Cecelia, Picola, Betty, Martha, June, Celena and one brother, Leslie; one uncle, Alton Gibbs; one aunt, Glenda Hargett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
