Saturday, August 8, 2026 11:30 A. M. Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church Rev. Kenneth Moye, Officiating Interment Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery Milledgeville, Georgia "Hutchings Service"

The first chapter in the life of Gerald Sims began on December 23, 1952, when God blessed Justice and Corine Pitts Sims of Macon, Georgia with their thirteenth and final child. Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Jason Dwayne Sims; four sisters, Doris Sims, Minnie Sims Clayton, Betty Sims Stephens and Virginia Sims; and six brothers, Levi, Jester, Payton T., Edmond D., James and Lafayette Sims. Gerald transitioned from this life on August 1, 2026, after a brief illness at the Georgia War Veterans Home (GWVH) in Milledgeville, Georgia, where he has resided since 2019. He was well known and loved by the staff and fellow residents at GWVH. He enjoyed playing bingo (especially when he was winning), chess (when he could find a partner) and participating in other activities. One of Gerald's favorite pastimes was the weekly visits from his brother, Johnny, along with other relatives and friends. When Johnny arrived for his weekly visit, Gerald would proudly announce to others, "Here comes MY brother!" With Johnny, he looked forward to endless outside smoke breaks, rides to area restaurants for fast food and fellowship that always ended in prayer. It was after one of these prayers that Gerald received Jesus as his Savior. Gerald graduated from Peter G. Appling High School with the class of 1971. Following graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for four years. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1975, he returned to his hometown of Macon, Georgia, and attended Central Georgia Technical College. Throughout his life, Gerald had a great love for fast muscle cars and enjoyed owning several of them. Gerald leaves to cherish his memory his son, Jeremy Sims; daughter, Renae Jenkins; grandchildren, Jada, Jonah, Addison Savanna and Ari; sister, Gloria (Clarence, deceased) Williams; brother, Johnny (Alberta) Sims; sister-in-law, Ocilla Sims; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. May Gerald's memory forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Hutchings Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the family of Gerald Sims.
