Tamattea Annette Shaw
May 20, 1968 — Aug 6, 2026
Tamattea "Tammy" Annette Covington-Shaw was born on May 20, 1968, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Glenda Covington and Edward Covington Jr. She was united in faith with Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church and carried that foundation with her throughout her life.
Tammy attended McGavock High School and graduated with the Class of 1988. In 1990, she married Harold Shaw. As a proud and devoted Navy wife, Tammy stood faithfully beside her husband and supported him and their family throughout his 20 years of service to the United States Navy.
Tammy worked as a Teacher Assistant at Finnigan Elementary in Mayport, Florida, where she supported children and their learning. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and puzzle games, especially Candy Crush and Royal Kingdom.
Above all, Tammy treasured her family. She loved spending time with those she loved, especially her boys and her grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy. Her beautiful smile and infectious laughter touched everyone in her presence and could brighten any room. Tammy was also a caring and dependable listener, someone family and friends could turn to for a listening ear, encouragement, and support. Her warmth, love, and steady presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Tammy was preceded in death by her mother, Glenda Covington, and her siblings Shanica "Tinka" Hamilton, Ebony Covington, Joshua Covington, and Rodriguez Covington.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Harold Shaw Sr.; her children, Harold (Delisianne) Shaw Jr., Daryl (Brittany) Shaw, and Micheal Shaw; her grandchildren, Daylan "King" Shaw and Esmé "Mama" Shaw; and her father, Edward Covington Jr.
She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Arnetta (James) Hayes, April Blivens, Shanelle "Barney" Covington, and Serita "Tootie" Lillard; her brothers, Edward "Pop" Covington III, Timothy (Betty) Covington, and Lawrence "Man Man" Scott; and her brothers-in-law, Michael Hamilton Sr., Robert "Bobby" Fisher, Ricko Frierson, and David Lillard.
Tammy's extended family includes her aunts, Vanessa Bigsby, Carolyn (Albert) McKinnon, Victoria Whitehead, Annie Ruth Covington, Delores "LoLo" McKinnie, Pamela (Dwight) Pettis, and Brenda (Tyrone) Myrick; and her uncle, Alfred Whitehead Jr.
