Cynthia Celestine (Hawes) Webb-Tate, was born in Bladen County, NC. She passed August 5, 2026 at her home in Durham, North Carolina.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, 1:00 pm at American Cremation & Funeral Service.

Cynthia Webb-Tate was born on August 19, 1948, in Kelly, North Carolina, to the late Arthur and Mavis Hawes.

She was a woman of strength, compassion, wisdom, and love. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to her family and took great pride in the people she loved. She was known for her generosity and goodwill. Cynthia was a business woman and entrepreneur. She was a real estate investor, owning multiple properties and even build her own home with the help of her oldest son, Scotti, drawing the layout! She also owned a home daycare, Webb’s Family Daycare. She made her home a place of peace, business, and life skills. She loved educating and caring for children. She taught them that hard work reaps rewards. Raking leaves, tending to the garden, and learning phonics was all in a week’s learning at Webb’s Daycare. There were trips to Disney World, beaches and lakes, and amusement parks! Cynthia taught “her children” that anything is possible and that life is not perfect, but it is beautiful. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
She was the matriarch, the nucleus to a forever growing web of her lineage.

Cynthia is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Hawes and Mavis Hawes; Mother-in-law Hassie Webb-Alston; her sisters Gladys Rogers Shearin and Mavis Page; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hunter-Webb; and her husband Gainesville Tate and ex-husband Richard Webb. She is survived by her children: Jeffrey “Scotti’ Webb, Gregory Webb, LaWanda Webb; 4 grand daughters: Jamakah Webb, Giovonnti Webb, Jawanya Webb, Tageyanna Parker. 5 grand sons: Kiera Blue, Ja’Ron Webb, Marcus Hall, Anthony Hunter and Javon Hunter; 13 great grand children; 5 sisters and 2 brothers, her life partner Ronnie Earl Ray, and a great host of extended family and friends. She had a special CNA Syday Alston that she meet while in the Pace Program.
