It is with a heavy heart, but also a spirit of celebration, that we announce the passing of Charles Raymond Winphrie III, who departed from this world on August 2, 2026, at the age of 75. More commonly known as Raymond or Ray, he was born on November 28, 1950, in Youngstown, Ohio, where he would go on to live a life filled with love, laughter, and significant contributions to his community.
A proud graduate of The Rayen School, Ray dedicated his career to gathering the community together as the Manager of the former George W. Caver American Legion Post 504. His passion in this role brought people together through camaraderie and shared purpose.
Charles was known for his engaging personality, often bringing joy to gatherings with his love for fishing, playing dominoes, playing cards and shooting pool. His talent for emulating the perfect dresser was matched only by his ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. He was a member of the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.
Raymond deeply cherished his family. He leaves precious memories and moments with his adored fiancée Terry Huff. Charles’ legacy will be sustained by his children Sophie Taylor, Terrance McKeever, Chanel Kimberly, Keisha Winphrie, Danielle Winphrie, Jasmine Winphrie, Charles Winphrie and Jamon Winphrie.
Raymond also leaves behind three beloved sisters Jeanette Hinton, Janice Strozier, and Sharon Winphrie, along with a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. His influence and spirit will live on through them and the countless lives he impacted during his time in the community.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Stewart, Charles Winphrie; sons Raymond Taylor, Jeroux Devon Kimberly; brothers Clarence Mitchell, James Darrell Prestley, Kenneth Jenkinss and Byron Burke.
The family welcomes all who knew Charles to join them in commemorating a remarkable man whose laughter and engaging spirit will be dearly missed but never forgotten. In honoring Charles's life, a public viewing will take place at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Avenue on Friday August 14, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. with Pastor J. Dwayne Heard as the officiant.
Friends, family, and all those who knew Raymond are warmly invited to come together afterwards to attend A Celebration of Life reception to be held at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave, Youngstown at 4:00 PM. Let us gather in love and remembrance to celebrate a life well-lived.
