Dorothy Jean Joiner was born on July 24, 1938, in Kosciusko, MS to the late Claude and Katie “KD” Joiner, who raised her with love, strength, and unwavering support. From a young age, Dorothy displayed a vibrant spirit, a kind heart, and a natura ability to bring joy to everyone around her.

Early in life, she committed her soul to Christ and joined Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Floyd Gray, where she faithfully served until her journey took her north.

Dorothy received her education at Conway High School (later renamed the Thomastown Attendance Center), where she excelled academically and built lifelong friendships. After graduation, she relocated to the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she built a full and successful life. She dedicated many years to a successful career in manufacturing at Briggs & Stratton and possessed a sharp entrepreneurial spirit, successfully owning and managing an apartment complex in the city.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dorothy had a deep passion for the finer things in life. She loved fashion, always ensuring she looked her absolute best. She had a brilliant eye for a good bargain, and you could often find her exploring outlet stores and thrift shops, discovering unique and eclectic treasures. She was also an incredible cook; her famous handmade pies were a mandatory request every single time she traveled back home to the South.

More than anything, Dorothy was devoted to her family and friends. She cherished her relationships deeply and was a constant source of strength, laughter, and comfort. Her love for her sister, Icy Joiner Perteet, who also served as her devoted and loving caretaker, knew no bounds. Dorothy took immense pride in being a loyal sister, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Katie “KD” Joiner; her two brothers, Percy “Sonny” Joiner and Claude Joiner Jr; and her sister, Vernestine Joiner Wingard. We take great comfort in knowing they welcomed her home with open arms. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and is survived by her beloved sister and caretaker, Icy Joiner Perteet, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Though the pain of her loss is overwhelming, we find solace in the beautiful memories she left behind. Her spirit will live on in every shared story, every echo of laughter, and every act of love inspired by her beautiful example. We will forever carry her in our hearts.
