Mrs. Bertha Lee Ealy, 98, of Phenix City, AL passed Sunday, July 5, 2026 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST, Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Noble Williams, officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Mrs. Bertha Lee Ealy was born December 17, 1927 in Columbus, Ga to the late Jacob Moore and the late Minnie Bennett. She peacefully departed from this world on July 5, 2026 at the age of 98.
Bertha's journey was filled with love and laughter, especially after she united in marriage with. her beloved husband, Billy Ealy, on June 7, 1998 in Phenix City, AL. Together, they shared a beautiful life for 28 years, enriching their days with mutual support and deep affection.
Her educational journey began in the Muscogee County Public School System, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with learning and service. Bertha dedicated over two decades of her working life to The Bibb Manufacturing Company, where her hard work and commitment were deeply valued.
A devout and active member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama, Bertha served faithfully as a Deacon's Wife until her health no longer permitted. Her faith was a guiding beacon throughout her life, providing her with strength and comfort.
Bertha was known for her culinary prowess, often spending Sundays preparing feasts with her sister Mae that could feed an army. Her passion for baking and cooking was surpassed only by her love of travel. She delighted in exploring new places, having visited destinations such as Germany, Paris, Jamaica, New York and Florida.
Her quick wit and sense of humor warmed the hearts of many. Whenever asked how she was feeling, her spirited response was always, “I feel like a million dollars and ain't got a dime", capturing her vibrant personality and joyful spirit.
Bertha was predeceased by her treasured family members: Barbara Materre-Hill, Cynthia Jones, Katrena Chadwick, Randy Materre, Shedrick Moore, Horace Moore, Ted Moore and Mae Ola Walker.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Billy Ealy; her loving children, Linda Mitchell, Montgomery, AL, Wanda Lawson, Columbus, GA, Dexter Materre, Sr. (Barbara), Phenix City, AL and Sandra Gunn (Derrell), Columbus, GA; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; s special niece, Jennifer Weeks; a host of other relatives and cherished friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made in Bertha's memory to organizations close to her heart or charity of your choice. Her legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
