Faye Ree Thomas Smith was born on April 4, 1950, in Wrens, Georgia, to the late James Goodson Sr. and Bessie King Thomas. On September 10, 2026, she peacefully transitioned from this earthly life in DeKalb County, Georgia, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, family, and cherished memories.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Stone Springfield A.M.E. Church, located at 7476 GA Highway 296, Stapleton, Georgia 30823. Interment will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was also a proud member of the Jefferson County High School Class of 1968. Faye moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1989, where she built a life filled with love, family, faith, and meaningful relationships. She was a devoted member of Second Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she was treasurer of the SMV Baptist Church Kingdom Greeters.

Faye was a woman who found joy in the simple things in life. She loved to cook and bake and took great pleasure in preparing delicious meals for her family and loved ones. She especially cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was very important to her, and the memories created during family gatherings will forever be treasured.

Faye also had a love for traveling and enjoyed experiencing new places and making memories along the way. She loved fellowshipping with her church members and family after church and treasured the special bonds she shared with those around her. Her warm spirit, loving heart, and genuine care for others made her a blessing to everyone who knew her.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, James Goodson Sr. and Bessie King Thomas; her husband, Willie J. Smith; and her siblings, Joann Thomas Little, John Robert Thomas, Ronnie Thomas, John Willie Goodson, Melvin Goodson, and Alexander Goodson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughters, Tess (Maurice) Darisaw of McDonough, Georgia, and Jacqueline Simpson of McDonough, Georgia.

She is also survived by her brothers, Beau Jack Thomas (Margaret) of Covington, Georgia; Michael Thomas (Wanda) of Senoia, Georgia; Walter Thomas of Wrens, Georgia; Bernard Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia; James Goodson Jr. of Wrens, Georgia; and Richard Goodson (Martha), Wrens, Georgia, Clayton Goodson and Eddie James Goodson (Martha), Augusta, Georgia.

Faye leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Judy Thomas of Far Rockaway, New York; Carolyn Brown of Wrens, Georgia; Eleanor Jackson (Larry) of Wrens, Georgia; Janice Thomas of Wrens, Georgia; and Ella Goodson-Smith, Augusta, Georgia.

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Jamarri Simpson and Myles Simpson, both of Decatur, Georgia; and her five precious great-grandchildren, Princeton Simpson, JaLaya Simpson, Asahd Simpson, Prince McGhee, and Josiah Nowell; brother-in-law: Johnny Smith (Jennie), Roanoke, Virginia; sisters-in-law: Barbara Ann Thomas, Wrens, Georgia, Eloise Smith, Louisville, Georgia, Rev. Sharon Walden, Louisville, Georgia, Brenda Smith, Lithonia, Georgia; a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other devoted friends.

Faye will also be remembered and cherished by a host of extended family members, church members, friends, and loved ones whose lives she touched throughout the years.

Faye Ree was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, church member, and friend that loved to cook, bake, travel, fellowship, and most of all, spend time with the people she loved. She was a woman of faith, family, love, and devotion. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and her love for her family was evident in all that she did. Though her earthly presence will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her life was a beautiful collection of memories that will be treasured forever.

Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, church family, friends, and everyone blessed to know her. She may no longer be here in person, but her love, faith, kindness, and beautiful spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
