Gary Lyn Hoyer, aged 74 of Bowie, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 24th at White Family Funeral Home in Bowie, Texas with military honors provided by a Color Guard of the United States Navy.
Gary was born on September 24, 1951, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Gary proudly served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1991, achieving the rank of AE1. Gary served many of his years aboard the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier, where he worked on A6 Intruders and received awards like the National Defense Medal and two service deployment ribbons. His dedication
to duty and country was matched only by his love of family. After his military service, Gary had a passion for music, motorcycles and art. He was known for his sense of humor, his kindness and singing out loud when the mood was right. Gary touched lives and left a lasting legacy of honor and service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Metha Hoyer, his brother, Stanley C. Hoyer, his wife Irene C. Hoyer in addition to 2 sons, Manuel Contreres Jr. and Christopher "Chris" Contreras.
Gary is survived by his siblings, Barry W. Hoyer, Robert V. "Bobby" Hoyer and Rebecca D. "Becky" Hoyer-Diaferio; his 3 children, Ruben and wife Janice Contreras, Robert F. Hoyer and Irene L. Hoyer; and 13 grandchildren.
