Marcus Dewey Rivers was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Doris Rivers-Sampson and the late Roy Johnson.
In 1991, Marcus relocated with his mother to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he attended Harrisburg High School, John Harris Campus and eventually earned his GED.
After receiving his GED, Marcus began working at several restaurants before eventually finding his way to Perkins Restaurant, where he worked as a cook. Marcus was known for being a dedicated and hardworking person. Wherever he worked, he took pride in what he did and was always willing to give his best.
Marcus enjoyed spending time with his family and loved gathering with them for cookouts. He found joy in cooking, sharing meals, and creating memories with the people he loved. Family was an important part of Marcus's life, and those who knew him will remember the time, laughter, and moments they shared with him.
On September 1, 2026, following many health battles, Marcus peacefully transitioned into eternal life at his home.
Marcus was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Rivers-Sampson and Roy Johnson.
He will be remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May his memory continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Marcus leaves to honor and cherish memories of him, his wife, Katherine Rivers; his daughter, Sharae Williams of Harrisburg, PA; his beloved brother, Michael Rivers of Harrisburg, PA; his daughter’s mother, Shamia Williams of Baltimore, MD; his uncles, Dennis Rivers of Brooklyn, NY and Gerald Davis (Frances) of Salisbury, NC; his great uncle, Erskin Jones of Harrisburg, PA; his niece, Myisha Allen; his nephew, Michael Rivers, Jr.; his great niece and nephew, Felix Abreu and Aniya Allen; a host of other family and friends.
His life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
