Mr. Julius “Curlytop” Henderson Jr., 82 of Durham, NC was born May 5, 1944, in Wake County, NC to the late Julius Henderson Sr. and the late Susie B. Henderson-Jones.

“Curlytop” worked first on the family farm, then in pulpwood and later in brick masonry. When he left home, he followed his older brother, Thomas, to New Haven, CT. Brick masonry gave him the opportunity to travel to various states, but New Haven was always his favorite.Eventually, he moved back to Durham, NC. For the last couple of years, he lived at Eno Pointe Assisted Living and was loved by staff and his fellow residents. He was affectionately called JuJu by the staff. His compassion for people and his giving nature has left a mark there.

He answered God’s call on September 18, 2026, at the Treyburn Rehabilitation Center.

“Curlytop” leaves to cherish his memories, his baby girl, LaSonja Renee Henderson (Stacey) and one granddaughter, Keyonna Mathis, all of Riverdale, GA; five sisters, Ernestine (Eddie) Oliver, Lillie Knight and Beverly Zimmerman, all of Durham, NC; Linda Godwin of South Hampton, NJ; and Vivian Henderson of Lithonia, GA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Francine Henderson; one son, Kevin Henderson; two sisters, Allie G. Harris and Sulina Henderson; and five brothers, Arvid Henderson, Thomas Henderson, Odell Henderson Sr., Marvin Henderson Sr. and Alfred Henderson.
