Kevin Roberson

Kevin Maurice Roberson, born January 3, 1965, was a kind and funny man. He enjoyed his music. Anyone who knew him, knew he was a big fan of Michael Jackson. He owned an invaluable collection of CDs and DVDs of the music and artists he loved. Kevin was brilliant. He was a student who could sit in a back of a classroom, listen to the instructor, and, without studying, pass any test. He completed his high school education at Whites Creeks Comprehensive High School and attended Tennessee State University for two years.

Life changed suddenly for Kevin at a young age, and he began living with serious mental illness. After years of struggle and care, a permanent home was found for Kevin that he truly enjoyed. True Care, a residential home for men in Nashville, opened their doors and welcomed him in. Another place, Centerstone, provided a place of healing and hope and was his “happy place.” There he danced, sang, and even won a talent show competition. Who knew!

Kevin was clever. He often found ways of not to do what he was asked to do, and he could usually explain exactly why he was doing what he was doing. He had a way a getting away with just about anything, because his Mother was not going to beat him down.

Early Sunday morning, September 20, Kevin closed his eyes and entered the embrace of God.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Kathryn Russell; bonus dad, Richard Russell; his sister, Kristy (Antoni) Sinkfield, Aunts and Uncles Samuel (Ruby) Robinson, Hazel Robinson, Lawrence (Lauretta) Robinson, Neal (Kitty) Roberson, Virginia (Deana) Jackson; nieces and nephews: Joshua (Michelle) DuBois, Anah Sinkfield, Willie “Tony” Sinkfield, Jr.; great-nieces and nephews: August DuBois, Adelaide DuBois, Auden DuBois; cousins: Danita Berry, Kimberly Johnson, Ulysses Shelton, Daniel Roberson, Ebony Roberson, Grant Lloyd, and Tre Muqaddeem; and a host of extended family. His uncle David Robinson, preceded him in death.

Kevin has joined his Father, Homer Roberson, among the ancestors.
