James Emanuel Spencer Jr., affectionately known as “Mushie,” was born on October 29, 1961, to the late James E. Spencer Sr. and Irene Folsom.

James lived a life filled with love, family, and cherished relationships. His presence touched the lives of many, and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him will remain in their hearts for years to come.

James departed this life leaving behind a legacy of love and precious memories. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Bruce Spencer and Bernard Spencer.

James leaves to cherish his loving memory his daughter, Latoya S., of Killeen, Texas; his son, Xavier S. Spencer, of Miami, Florida; and four grandchildren, who will forever carry a special part of him in their hearts.

He is also survived by his stepmother, Karen Spencer of Dixie, Georgia; three sisters, Pamela Griffin (Curtis) of Dixie, Georgia, Tracy Ann Spencer of Jacksonville, Florida, and Heather Spencer of Dixie, Georgia; and five brothers, Alfonso Stevens (Luella) of Miami, Florida, Farris Spencer (Natalie) of Thomasville, Georgia, Tracy Spencer (Celesta) of Valdosta, Georgia, William “Patrick” Spencer of Suffolk, Virginia, and Michael Spencer (Asia) of Thomasville, Georgia.

James also leaves to cherish his memory a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends, all of whom were touched by his life and will treasure the memories they shared with him.

Though James, affectionately known as “Mushie,” is no longer with us in person, the love he shared, the relationships he built, and the memories he leaves behind will continue to live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His life will be remembered, his love will be cherished, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Public Viewing: Friday, September 25, 2026 from 2:00-6:00 PM in the BTW Funeral Services Chapel.

Celebration of Life Service for Mr. James “Mushie” Spencer, Jr. will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Simmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Quitman, Georgia. Burial: Spencer Cemetery.
