John Thomas Reynolds, 86, of Mountain Valley Road, VA, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Axton, Virginia, on September 26, 2026.
John was born in Axton, Virginia, on October 22, 1939, to the late Lloyd Herman Reynolds and Sallie Anne Hairston Reynolds. He was a man who valued family, faith, hard work, and the simple joys of life.
At an early age, John joined Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in Axton, VA. He proudly served his country as a United States Army he was a Vietnam veteran, carrying the values of service and dedication throughout his life.
For 35 years, John was employed with Hooker Furniture, where he built a long and honorable career. He was known as a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family.
Outside of work and church, John enjoyed fishing and spending time with the people he loved. His greatest treasures, however, were his family and the memories he created with them. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, perseverance, and devotion that will continue through the generations.
John leaves to cherish his memory his son, Donald (Sonya) Reynolds of Belleville, Illinois; his sisters, Virgie B. Myers, Sallie P. Reynolds both of Axton, Virginia, and Pheobie Reynolds Gravely of Martinsville, Virginia; one brother, Frank S. Reynolds of Salem, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jonathan Reynolds of Atlanta, Georgia, Chris Reynolds of Auburn, Alabama, Kierra White of North Carolina, and Kennedy Reynolds of Belleville, Illinois; one great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Novella Reynolds of Axton, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie J. Lockhart Reynolds, his son John Thomas Reynolds, Jr., and his brother Lloyd J. Reynolds.
A visitation service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 50 Moral Hill Dr., Axton, VA, with Dr., Rev. Waddell Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.
A public viewing will be held at Hairston Funeral Home on Monday, October 5, 2026, between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 4437 Mountain Valley Rd., Axton, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. daily.
