James Lowell Wilson

James Lowell Wilson, 93, of Axton, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on September 28, 2026, at his residence. He was born May 22, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Firstal Wilson and the late Emma Sue Divens Wilson.

James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and man of faith. He was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Polly Wilson, with whom he shared many cherished years of love, family, and memories.

James was a proud United States Army veteran and was also a faithful member of Evangelical Holiness Church. His faith was an important part of his life, and he cherished the fellowship of God's people. He was a man who understood the importance of family, hard work, faith, and treating others with kindness.

James was a graduate of Southside High School in Pittsylvania County. He was employed with Bassett-Walker before retiring. Throughout his life, he was known for his quiet strength, wisdom, and love for those around him. His presence brought comfort to his family and friends, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Wilson; eight sisters and three brothers.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife, Polly Wilson; his daughters, Shirby W. Keen, (Rev. Dr. William Keen) of Danville, VA, Kirby Wilson of Charlotte, NC, Gail Wilson of Axton, VA, Naomi Wilson of Pittsburgh, PA, and Gunny Davis (Ossie) of Danville, VA; six grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Evangelical Holiness Church, 17340 Martinsville Hwy., Axton, VA with Bishop John Campbell, Presiding, Pastor Marvin Slade, Eulogist. Interment will follow at New Sharon Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 3593 Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, VA.

The family will receive friends at Hairston Funeral Home on Thursday, October 1, 2026, between the hours of 1 pm. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 3737 Brookside Rd., Axton, VA.
