Gregory Lee Brown, the beloved son of the late Marine Brown Sharp and the late Horace Smith, was born on June 11, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky. Surrounded by his loving family, Greg peacefully departed this life on September 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Greg leaves to cherish his memory his children, Kenya Leigh Brown, Gregory La’Meir Brown Jr., Ariyah Mary Turner, and Aliyah Renea Turner; his stepdaughters, Stephanie Thomas, Shaunetta “Bear” Thomas, and Ukeima Gladney; his grandchildren, Nyla Doyle, Tristan Avery Gentry, and Leiland Gregory Stevenson; and his siblings, Yolander Jackson, Deborah Brown, Joyce Carpenter, Freda (Michael) Blair, and Pearletta Gordon. He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews and his special longtime friend, LaTonya Wilson.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Marine Brown Sharp; his father, Horace Smith; his stepfather, Willie Sharp; his grandparents, Edna and Alonzo Ferguson; his daughter, Katherine Joyce Bennett; and his brother, Rufus Leron “Boo”Brown.
At an early age, Greg was baptized in Jesus’ name at Christ Temple New Assembly, beginning a foundation of faith that remained a meaningful part of his life.
Greg was a skilled residential painter and also worked as a cook at several hotels. He took great pride in his appearance and loved to dress well—his shoes always looked as though they had just come out of the box. Greg enjoyed dancing, playing basketball, watching a good movie, and, most of all, spending time with his children. He was a devoted father with a generous heart, always willing to help anyone in need or simply fulfill a heartfelt wish. He delighted in a good home-cooked meal, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and he was a devotedUK fan.
The family extends a special and heartfelt thank-you to LaTonya Wilson for her many years of devoted friendship and loving care for Greg.
The family also offers its deepest appreciation to the nurses and doctors at Baptist Health, the Palliative Care team,Commonwealth Home Health Agency, and everyone who provided care, comfort, support, or assistance in any way.
Greg will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May those who mourn his passing find peace in cherished memories, comfort in the love he shared, and strength in knowing that his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
