Leroy A. Goss, 75, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family who lovingly cared for him. Born on June 23, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia, Leroy lived a life marked by strength and perseverance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo (Edna) Goss; brother Lamar Burtts; brother-in-law & sister, Norman (Geraldine) Hill. Survived by sister, Virginia (Jeni) Henderson, Columbus, OH; Many cousins, nephews, nieces, and special niece Jessica Burtts-Chapman.
He graduated from East High School in Columbus, Ohio, in 1969. After graduating, he joined the Armed Forces. Following his time in the military, he worked for, and retired from DeKalb County's Department of Sanitation.
Those who knew Leroy will remember him as a kind, generous, and driven man. He had a way of facing obstacles head-on, refusing to let them define him or defeat him. He took pride in overcoming challenges and in doing things his way. His strength was not loud or showy; it was the kind that showed up in persistence, and in the example he set simply by the way he lived. Leroy's presence brought reassurance, and his character left a lasting impression on the people around him.
He was an avid sports fan. Football, baseball, and basketball were among his favorites. He especially liked the Atlanta Braves.
Leroy will be affectionately remembered for the life he lived and the way he met each season with courage. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and kindness, along with the lasting memory of a man who kept moving forward no matter what came his way. Though he is gone from sight, the example he set and the love he shared will remain with all who knew him.
