Celebrating the Life of Bernice Holder Jones
Bernice Holder Jones, 91, passed away early Saturday morning, October 10, 2026. Born September 20, 1935, in Nash County, she was the daughter of the late Sanders Turner Holder and Tressie Elvira Page.
Bernice shared 36 years of marriage with her beloved husband, the late H. V. Jones (Swing Master). One of 23 children, she is survived by her sister, Emma Jean Holder Malone; her brother, Rudell Holder; and adopted sister; Carolyn Newman Bass, a loving family of stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A longtime member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Bernice faithfully served in several ministries and sang with the Mount Olive Echoes. Her favorite Scripture was Psalm 23, and her familiar declaration, “God is good all the time,” reflected the faith that sustained her.
Known for her nurturing spirit, encouragement, and delicious home cooking, Bernice welcomed generations into her heart and home. Her nurturing spirit was especially evident in her care for her youngest sister, the late Deborah Yvonne Holder Rollins, whom she raised. She cherished Deborah’s son, James Artis Rollins, Jr., as her grandson and his daughters, Zoe and McKenzie, as her great grand babies. She also helped raise her niece and goddaughter, Genia Holder-Cozart, whom she loved as a daughter, helping shape her life and faith.
Her legacy of faith, love, and generosity lives on in the many lives she touched
