U.S. Veteran

Marcus A. “Tim” Dickerson was born on June 17, 1960, in Wilson, North Carolina, to the late Margaret and Marcus Dickerson. On October 11, 2026, Marcus entered eternal rest.

An alumni of Fike High School Class of 1978, Marcus went on to dedicate 20 years of honorable service to the United States Army before retiring. Following his military career, he made Georgia his home for nearly 30 years, where he continued his commitment to service through his professional career, church, and community. Marcus retired as Assistant Director of the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC), where he devoted his time and leadership to serving others.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Marcus genuinely enjoyed helping people. Whether he was preparing a meal, lending a helping hand, or simply showing up when someone needed him, he found joy in being of service. He enjoyed cooking and sharing food with others, and he was always willing to step in wherever he was needed. His willingness to give his time and help those around him was a reflection of the kind of man he was. Even after retirement, Marcus continued serving others as a caregiver to elderly veterans, providing assistance, companionship, and support to those in need.

Marcus was also a faithful member of Beulah Grove Baptist Church, where he actively participated in the Senior Usher Ministry. As shared by the Beulah Grove Baptist Church Usher Ministry: “Brother Marcus Dickerson was a faithful and dedicated member of the Senior Usher Ministry at Beulah Grove Baptist Church. He participated with the Union of Georgia Ushers and the GMBC 10th District Ushers. He served with a willing heart and a joyful spirit. His commitment and example of true service will never be forgotten.”

Throughout his life, Marcus was loved and respected by many. He believed in being present, helping where he could, and making himself available to those who needed him. His years of military service, professional leadership, church involvement, and dedication to others reflected a life centered on service.

Marcus was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Marcus Dickerson, and his eldest sister, Antionette.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Demekia Dickerson Binion and Jocques A. Dickerson; four grandchildren, Darius D. Binion Jr., Myami A. Clark, Demi D. Binion, and Anias S. Dickerson; five siblings; and a host of extended family members, friends, fellow veterans, church family, and others whose lives he touched.

Marcus leaves behind a legacy of service, generosity, and dedication. He will be remembered not only for the positions he held or the years he served, but also for the meals he prepared, the helping hands he extended, and the countless times he showed up when someone needed him.

The family will host a Memorial Service on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 11:00AM at Beulah Grove Baptist Church, 1434 Poplar Street, Augusta, Georgia with military honors.
