Funeral service for Kwesiya Mitchell, 24, of Opelika, AL, will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, 21935 US Highway 80, Opelika, AL, 36804 with interment in the church cemetery, Reverend Rodney Adkins will officiate.
Ms. Mitchell, who passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama, was born October 24, 2001, in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Ms. Mitchell will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
She leaves to cherish her memory: father, Kwesi (Melitta) Marshall of Opelika, AL; mother, April Mitchell of Opelika, AL; maternal grandfather, Robert Louis Collier of Opelika, AL; paternal grandparents, Frank and Marilyn Marshall of Opelika, AL; three brothers, Nigel Mitchell, Keontae Mitchell and Cameron Mitchell all of Opelika, AL; three sisters, Aunadia Marshall, Madison Marshall both of Opelika, AL and Khalani Hooks of Roanoke, AL; four aunts, Bridget Mitchell of Opelika, AL, Lacretia Torbert of Beauregard, AL, Venira Walter of Atlanta, GAand Ieshia Todd of Auburn, AL; three great aunts, Valeria Marshall of Auburn, AL, Cassie Pearl Singleton of Beauregard, AL and Cora James of Opelika, AL; five uncles, Omar (Brittney) Marshall, Marcus (Audrey) Marshall, Roger (Muriel) Collier all of Opelika, AL, Derrick Baker of Beulah, AL and Rayshawn Torbert of Brownville, AL; five great-uncles, Henry “Sonny” Harris of Alexander City, AL, Emmanuel Shorter, Aaron D.
