Terry Wayne Tate, Sr. passed away suddenly at his residence in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 24, 2026. He was born on January 4, 1955, in New Market, Alabama. His passing brings deep sorrow to all who knew and loved him, and his memory will be cherished by the many family members and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, warmth, and steady presence.

A 1973 graduate of Huntland High School, Terry went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army from September 1974 until September 1976, receiving an honorable discharge. He later built a long and dedicated career with the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was employed from April 1978 until April 2011. His years of service reflected commitment, reliability, and a strong work ethic that remained evident throughout his life.

Terry was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family. He found joy in time spent outdoors and in sharing meaningful moments with those closest to him. He was loved by many, and his personality was truly special. He loved everyone and was a friend to all, leaving behind memories of generosity, fellowship, and genuine care for others.

One of the greatest blessings of Terry’s life was his family. He married the love of his life, Delores Jones Tate, on February 5, 1992. Together they shared more than 40 years of life and love, and 34 years of marriage. Terry loved his family deeply and was especially proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was everything to him, and the bond he shared with them will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Delores Jones Tate; his daughter, Teneisha Jones; and his sons, Terry (Kenyada)Tate, Jr. and Jamie (Katie) Tate. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Keyara Jones, DeAngelo Simmons, Vinshawn Jones, Demetrice Jones, Ny'lah Harvey Tate, Sky'lah Tate, Terry W. Tate, III, and Novah Tate. His joy continued through his great-grandchildren, , Dean Simmons, and Dimir Simmons. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley (Thurman) Wilkerson, Betty Rene Stewart, Emma Tate, Celestine Tate, and Ora (Antonio) Cartwright; his brothers, Timothy Tate and Phillip (Selena) Tate; and his devoted mother figures, Jeanette Johnson and Mamie Jones, along with many other relatives, loved ones, and friends who will hold his memory close. A special acknowledgement to Pamela Cossie, Keith Ramey and Mr. Joe (Velma) Jones.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Solomon Tate, and his mother, Martha Lee Tate.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the viewing on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Terrell Broady Funeral Home, Inc., 3855 Clarksville Pike, Nashville, Tennessee 37218. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., also at Terrell Broady Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery North, 1248 Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, Tennessee 37072.

Terry Wayne Tate, Sr. will be remembered for his love of family, his faithful service, his friendly spirit, and the many lives he touched. His legacy of love, devotion, and friendship will live on in all who knew him.
