A celebration of life for Jeffrey Alexander Hocevar will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Niffer's Place, 1151 Opelika Road, Auburn, AL 36830, Pastor Rick Hagans will officiate.

The Order of Service will include: Opening Prayer; Scripture; Eulogy; Closing Prayer; Expressions of Love and Memory; live music beginning at 4:00 p.m. by Gumptown Brass Band; New Orleans Style Funeral Procession and Whiskey & Toasting.

Jeffrey Alexander Hocevar passed away in the arms of his loving wife at their home in Opelika, Alabama on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Jeff “Long Hair”, as he was known by family and friends, was born July 24, 1980, in DeKalb County, Georgia. He was baptized at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Georgia on August 24, 1980. Jeff graduated from Ben Franklin Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, and later graduated from ST Engineering Mobile Aerospace in Mobile, Alabama.

Jeff truly broke the mold. He never met a stranger, possessed a rare gift for turning newcomers into fast friends, and brought joy to every room with his wicked sense of humor. While he loved adventure and travel, he was happiest when a trip promised a few simple things: great food, cold beer, time on the water, and his beloved dogs tagging along for the ride.

Though Jeff modestly called himself an automotive technician, anyone who saw him work knew he was an engineering savant. He possessed a rare, quiet genius, bringing the most complex, broken vehicles back to life when everyone else had given up. Yet, as brilliant as he was with machines, his real gift was how he lifted the people around him. With an easy smile and a joke for every occasion, he knew exactly how to brighten a dark room and share a laugh just when it was needed most.

Jeff didn’t care about status, but he did love the good stuff: bougie beer, top-shelf whiskey, great music, and deep, late-night conversations. For Jeff, life was all about the experience—discovering new flavors, sharing a good drink, and enjoying deep connection with the people he loved.

Above all, Jeff had a massive heart. Helping people, rescuing every stray animal he could sneak past the door, and finding humor in every situation were his most fulfilling passions. He lived life with a generous spirit, a sharp wit, and total compassion. He will be remembered for his laughter, his kindness, his love of adventure, and the countless lives he touched along the way. Jeff made the world a whole lot brighter just by being himself, and the endless stories he leaves behind will keep his loved ones laughing for years to come.

Jeff was welcomed into a warm, heavenly homecoming, wrapped in the arms of his late father, Robert Alan Hocevar. Waiting right alongside him was a joyous chorus of in-laws, already plotting their next affectionate prank and ready to fill the air with shared jokes and laughter.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Melanie Hocevar of Opelika, AL; two children, Camryn Smith of Huntsville, AL, and Brayden Smith of Auburn, AL; his mother, Beth (Jim) Webster of Dunwoody, GA; his sister, Julie (Jim) Werven of Rochester, NY; his brother, Robert “Robbie” Hocevar, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; his brother, Dave (Larkin) Hocevar of Chamblee, GA; his brother, Jacob (Susy) Webster of Fairhope, AL; his sister, Emily (Dan) Hoffein of Washington; his father-in-law, George (Lena) Folds of Opelika, AL; his brother-in-law, Cameron (Jamela) Folds of Hercules, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and amazing friends.
