Ms. Yutebia Lashawn Mitchell Yancey, daughter of the late Mrs. Dorothy Mitchell Gibson, was born July 21, 1969, in Macon County, Alabama.
“Sweet Tea,” as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, attended True Deliverance Holiness Church in Auburn, Alabama.
She enjoyed singing and dancing and was known for her wonderful sense of humor and playful spirit. She was deeply spiritual and found great joy in cooking for others and making sure everyone was well fed. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren, who held a very special place in her heart and brought her immense joy.
On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, she departed this life at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Lashandra Heard of Opelika, AL; thirteen grandchildren, La’Marious Hughley, La’Precious Yancey, Ty’Quese Yancey, Ty’Tiana Mitchell, Kamiya Andrews, A’Mier Nelms, A’Lieah Nelms, Sa’Miyah Logan, Superior Logan, Sampson Logan, Kentavious Holland, K’Entavion Holland and Si Anna Heard; one brother, Anthony (Alicia) Grimmett of Huntsville, AL; two sisters, Katrenia Foster and Sabrena (Ray) Tolbert both of Auburn, AL; four aunts, Margaret (Eddie) Floyd of Atlanta, GA, Grace Rowell of Phoenix, AZ, Ethel Blount and Nadine Grimmett both of Auburn, AL; two uncles, Willie George Mitchell of Rochester, NY and Albert James Mitchell of Auburn, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family of the late Ms. Yutebia Lashawn “Sweet Tea” Mitchell Yancey acknowledges with grateful appreciation all acts of kindness, prayers, cards, telephone calls, flowers, and words of comfort extended to us during our time of bereavement. May God bless each of you.
