Sharon Lee Cox, 69, of Austintown, Ohio passed into eternity on Friday, August 28, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Sharon was born January 14, 1957, in Youngstown, Ohio to Leon and Georgia Sydney Cox (Bunchie).

Sharon attended Youngstown City Schools and graduated from The Rayen School in 1975. Sharon was active in band during her Jr. high school and high school years as a member of both the school’s symphony and marching bands.

Upon graduation, Sharon enrolled at The Raphael School of Cosmetology obtaining her Managing Cosmetology license. Sharon worked in various odd jobs and became a ‘kitchen beautician’ where she gained a sizeable client list, so she sought various salons, like A Touch of Class and Janies to work in until her desire to own her own salon became reality.

Once a building was located and purchased, Sydney’s Something Special on Albert Street, truly blossomed into ‘Something Special’. There were many perms, Jheri curls and French rolls processed at Sydney’s and never a dull moment in the building with patrons, especially those employed at General Motors, General Electric, Forum Health Care System, Cafaro and Mercy Healthcare Systems, just to name a few. It was the safe space to obtain the latest events and happenings in the city from Wednesday to Saturday evening.

Through her artistry and touch, she transformed not only the appearance of those who visited her salon but also brightened their spirits, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know her.

Fond memories of Sharon will be treasured by her sons; Steven “PG” Cox and Antione (Sarah) Cox, her beloved granddaughter Lilliana, sister Daphne Morrell, niece, Tia Jaster (Benjamin), her goddaughter, Alicia Clark-Williams and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

Sharon’s passing leaves a void in the lives of many, but her influence will undoubtedly continue to resonate in the hearts of those she touched. The Sydney-Cox family extends it gratitude and appreciation to Sharon’s friends, Helen Franklin, Annette Campbell and her helper, Trent Farley, for everything they did to assist during Sharon’s extended illness.

As Sharon answered the call to step into eternity of the celestial sands, she in now reunited with her parents, her Sydney aunts, uncles and cousins and long-term friends Joe B. Felder Jr. and Brenda Richardson.

To honor Sharon’s remarkable life, a 9:00 AM public viewing will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Lewis Macklin as the celebrant. After a committal ceremony, Sharon will be laid to rest upon the serene estates of the Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH.
