James Teasley, Sr.

01/29/1931 - 09/04/2026

Mr. James Teasley, Sr.

James Teasley, Sr, son of the late Annie and Gene Teasley, was born on January 29, 1931, in Elberton, Georgia. He departed this life peacefully on September 4, 2026, at Duke Hospice in Durham, North Carolina.

On November 10, 1958, James was united in marriage to Nellie Ruth Pulley Teasley. To this union five children were born.

James was a man of God who was known for his kindness, respectful manner and strong work ethic. He was devoted to his church and his family. He was a faithful and active member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ for many years where he served as Elder.

James was hardworking and took great pride in his work and in serving others. Although he officially retired from Durham Regional Hospital in 1992 James never truly retired from work. He was well known for his mechanical skills and enjoyed repairing lawnmowers and tractors. There was very little he could not fix when he put his hands and mind to it. For over 35 years James provided lawncare to many long-term customers while forming lasting relationships along the way. Up until the final months of his life as his health declined James could be seen on his lawnmower throughout the city of Durham and surrounding areas.

James lived a life rooted in faith, family, church and service to others. His presence will be missed deeply. But his memory and the love he shared will remain in all our hearts forever.

Rest well, James. Your work here is done.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nellie Ruth Teasley; his sons, James Teasley, Jr. and Asa Teasley; and his daughter, Lydia Gail Ruth Teasley.

James leaves to cherish his loving memory his son, Reginald Bruce Teasley (Maria) of Durham; his daughter, Lavonia Ruth Teasley of the home; his sisters, Mary Wright and Sarah Vinson of New Jersey; his brothers, William Teasley of New Jersey and Ben Teasley of Pittsburgh; a host of nieces and nephews along with 36 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of other relatives, church family and friends.
