Lillian was born November 15, 1931, to Frank H. and Kitty Annie (Burch) Riddle in the Silver Hill Community in Clay Co., Texas. On February 1, 1948, Lillian married J.C. Gossett in Jacksboro, Texas. The couple moved to Post, Texas, for a short time while J.C. worked in the oilfield before eventually returning to Jacksboro. They later made their home at the Gossett family place in Newport, where she lived until 1997. That year, Lillian built her first home, where she remained until moving to Independence Hall in 2024.
During her younger years, while living in Newport, Lillian worked at Hager Slacks in Bowie as a seamstress on Line 2. In the mid-1970s, she began a new career in real estate. She went on to earn her broker’s license and opened Texland Real Estate in Bowie, where she worked until her retirement in 2012. Even after retiring, Lillian continued helping people buy and sell real estate from her home until 2015.
On February 14, 2003, Lillian married Kenneth Priddy in Bowie. The two shared a love of real estate and worked alongside one another, while also continuing their life together, ranching in Newport. Lillian remained active in ranching following Kenneth’s passing and continued caring for the cattle and ranch until her move to Independence Hall.
Lillian cherished spending time with her family and friends. She had a love for reading, enjoyed making a good deal, and especially loved raising cattle and the ranching life. She was a hardworking, independent woman who built a life she was proud of. She was the last of her generation.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, JC Gossett in 1984, and Kenneth Priddy in 2017, son, John Gossett, brothers, Leon Riddle, Troy Riddle, and James Ray Riddle, sisters, Bess Bayless, Eva Lou Whitehead, Faye Sloan, and Bernice Rumage.
Lillian is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Gossett Shaw of Bowie; grandchildren, Everett M. Shaw and wife Brandee of Bowie, Stacey Price of Bowie, Trey Price and wife Elaine of Bellevue, John C. Gossett II of Bowie, William Gossett and wife Tricia of Bowie, and Cherrisa Gossett of Abilene, TX; 12 great- grandchildren and 21 great-great- grandchildren; daughter-in-law Linda Gossett.
Lillian’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Independence Hall in Bowie and Solaris Hospice for the compassionate and care provided.
