07/24/1937 - 10/21/2026

Dourest James Robinson Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, at HCA Florida Capital Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida.

Born in Daytona Beach, Florida, he was the eldest of two children of the late Dourest James Robinson Sr. and Rebecca Bragg Robinson. He was the grandson of Jubie Barton Bragg Sr., a pioneer in Florida A&M University athletics. FAMU’s Bragg Memorial Stadium honors his grandfather and his grandfather’s son, Eugene Bragg, connecting Dourest’s family history to the university’s enduring athletic legacy.

Dourest graduated from FAMU Developmental Research School in 1956 and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from FAMU in 1960, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Education in 1975. He served in the United States Army and devoted his career to teaching and coaching, retiring from the Gadsden County School System in 2003. To many former students, he remained affectionately known as “Coach.”

In 1962, he met JoAnn Jackson in Madison County. They married in July 1966 and shared sixty years of love, family, and companionship.

An avid sports enthusiast, Dourest enjoyed basketball and tennis and enthusiastically supported the FAMU Rattlers and Florida State Seminoles. He was a devoted member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, serving in numerous capacities, including senior warden.

He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn Robinson, of Tallahassee; sons, Dourest James Robinson III of Tampa and Jubie Bragg Robinson (Tehia) of Riverview; grandchildren, Lawton Bragg Robinson of Tallahassee; Tia Simone Robinson, Jubie Barton Bragg Robinson, Solomon Robinson, and Jalem Robinson, all of Riverview; and Annika Clarie Robinson of Lutz; along with loving relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anna L. Peterson.
