Obituary for Mrs. Evelina Joyce Smalls Jackson

Mrs. Evelina Joyce Jackson was born on September 11, 1951, in Beaufort, South Carolina. She was the second child of the late Deacon Emeritus Easton and Deaconess Evelyn Smalls. She departed this life Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Mrs. Jackson was educated in the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina where she graduated from C. A. Johnson High School. She was employed at Elite Epicuren for twenty-five years and the Columbia Marriott Hotel for 15 years. Mrs. Jackson loved to go shopping and was an avid purse collector. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Heyward Jackson; her parents, Deacon Emeritus Easton and Deaconess Evelyn Smalls; a sister, Vanessa Smalls Green; a nephew, Kevin B. Small; and a great-nephew, Anthony A. Stewart.

Mrs. Evelina Joyce Jackson leaves to cherish precious memories: her daughter Shemika L. (David) Heard of York, South Carolina; two sons, John A. Jackson and DE ’Carlos J. (Eunice) Jackson of Columbia, South Carolina; her sisters, Ida M. Smalls, Elaine S. (Trezevant) Dunlap, Ivenia M. (Mark) Briggs, and Althea S. Johnson all of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother, Easton E. (Marilyn) Smalls; sisters-in-law, Deresa (Charlie) Pace, Stephanie Plater, and Brenda (Calvin) Drummond all of Winston Salem, North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Antonio A. Green of Columbia, South Carolina, Willie (Evette) Houser and Mikle Davis, Sr. of Winston Salem, North Carolina; aunts, Beatrice Glover of High Point, North Carolina, Ethel Smalls of Virginia, Matilda (Jeptha) Derrick of Batesburg, South Carolina; uncles, Deacon Wesley Smalls of St. Helena Island, South Carolina, Oscar Smalls of Virginia, Franklin (Peggy) Smalls of Maryland; 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 14 nieces and nephews, 31 great-nieces and nephews, 3 great-great niece and nephews and a host of a host of cousins and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m., Sunday, December 10, 2023, at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Minister Darryl Scales, officiating. Interment to follow in the Promised Land Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2023, and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, Sunday, December 10, 2023, at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel.
