With deepest sympathy. The Department of Mathematics Morehouse College Dr. Curtis Clark, Chair
I have such fond memories of being in Dr. Gore's calculus class at Morehouse. I was an Economics major and his class was a requirement. He was an extremely talented mathematician and very funny - making humorous facial expressions while conveying a great deal of valuable information. He left a legacy, for sure.Rest in Peace, Dr. Henry Gore.
My longest lasting memories of my time at Morehouse was being in Dr. Gore's class. May he rest in peace. David Hicks
To the family I offer my sincerest condolences wrapped in a warm blanket of hope. I met Dr. Gore as a Freshman Computer Science student at Morehouse. After spending time with his brilliant mathematical mind and closely observing the genius in his teaching methodology, I decided to pursue a degree in math as a desire to teach was born in me as a result of interacting with Dr. Gore. I recall a day when Dr. Gore was unusually late to class. Typically a student would multiply the number of credits of the class by 5 minutes and that is the time you would give a professor before you leave in their absence. It was a measure of respect. The current class was worth 3 credit hours and so simple math would yield a wait of 15 minutes. Well, 15 minutes came and went and not one of the 35+ students in his class left. After 45 minutes approached and with only 5 minutes left, the door swings open and in comes Dr. Gore talking and writing on the chalkboard as if he had been there all along. The chatter immediately dissipated with every student listening attentively to the explanation of the Heine Borel Theorem. The class ran over by 5 minutes, yet the 10 minutes of instruction was unforgettable. The respect from the student body earned by Dr. Gore was on full display. His humility and respect for God and the understanding that his brilliant mind was only keen at discovering and understanding what The Creator had already established from long ago, put who the man actually was in proper perspective for the young student writing this today. It is because of my knowing and interacting with Dr. Henry A. Gore that I have a continuous longing to draw closer to Jehovah God as well as a desire to teach all who I can about the true foundation of all of creation, that is mathematics.
At the beginning, I mentioned hope. Yes Dr. Gore's journey has not concluded. No. He is nestled within God's perfectly keen memory. Knowing all authority has been given to our Lord Jesus by his father Jehovah, I am confident and want the family to know that the very next sound Dr. Gore will hear is the calming voice of Jesus saying: "Get up. You have slept enough for this day."
Dr. Henry Gore and I were both graduate students at the University of Michigan and Teaching Fellows teaching Freshman (First Year) Calculus. For final and midterm exams all the sections of students would take the same examination in the evening. The teaching fellows would form separate grading teams for each question in the exam. The teams would pass around large envelopes contain all the exams for a particular section. Whenever I got a envelope with GORE on the outside I knew that all those students in that envelope would correctly answer the question I was grading. There was no question that Henry was best teaching fellow testing that Calculus course. Students who found themselves in a section taught by Henry Gore had won the learning mathematics lottery.

Dr. Gore was definitely one of my favorite teachers in high school. He was full of enthusiasm and made math fun for me. I send my deepest condolences to his family. May his legacy continue on.
Dr. Gore taught me trigonometry in high school and was my inspiration at the time to pursue mathematics as a passion subject. I now have multiple college degrees in mathematics and I still primarily credit his passion and love for the subject giving me that drive. His legacy will live on in all of the students like me. May you rest in power, Dr. Gore; I owe you more than you could imagine.
To the family of Dr. Henry A. Gore, please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Forty-four years ago, I came to Morehouse as a Computer Science major and left with a degree in Mathematics because of Dr. Gore. As I prepare to celebrate my 40th class reunion, his teaching has had a profound and lasting impact on my life. As a 20 year corporate finance and private equity investment professional, who later became a K-12, CFO for the past 18+ years, and Board Member, I still apply many of the fundamentals and foundational principals Dr. Gore taught me.
While his teaching style, approach and delivery was sure to result in laughter in every class, he never compromised on his demand for hard work and excellence. He used Mathematics to teach us that it was more than just about problem solving or proving theorems. It was about discipline and how to think. Beyond Mathematics, Dr. Gore taught me how to approach problem solving in general and the importance of collaboration with my classmates (and now professional colleagues). These were some of the most valuable life lessons of all.
Finally, I witnessed Dr. Gore's love for God as a member of his church choir during my senior year. He gave me a chance to return to my spiritual roots, which I have held onto to this day. Rest in Heaven Dr. Gore. Steve Tolbert
Dr Henry Gore has always been a legend and a scholar amongst scholars to me and my Morehouse college brothers and family. To this day we share "Dr Gore" stories of how he ran the math department at peak level and demanded nothing less than excellence from his students. His classes were entertaining yet demanding! One of his lasting "sayings" was "if you come to my class and laugh but don't do your work, it'll be the funniest F you ever got!" And that was sooo true! After graduating from Morehouse 30+ years ago I gained a degree in Mathematics education from Harvard University. When I saw Dr Gore and told him, he pointed at me and said simply (with his stern voice & glance) "you teach that math!" I knew what he meant and that became my mission for many years afterward. He had been on my mind and I just happen to google his name this morning to see what he was up to, only to find that his passing was just a couple days ago. What a "tough pill to swallow!" That said, I relish the fact that I had the opportunity to interact with such an incredible and upstanding human being. My (Spelman Alumna) wife, who is also an educator, and I commonly and affectionately refer to his inspirational tenets. The world and definitely Morehouse college are much better places and uncommonly privileged to have been blessed with the presence of Dr Gore. God bless the family and all those who knew Dr Henry A Gore. Martin Gilbert and family. Morehouse College c/o '90

I was fortunate to have known Dr Henry Gore as Dr Gore and Henry for his was friend of the family from my childhood and one of 5 educators that had a transformational impact on my life. His teaching style was exciting. He inspired you to excellence and he required it but you didn't mind because you knew he required it for your best interest. With those difficult take home open book examinations he also built lasting friendships between those of is who worked as a team. His emphasis on understanding subjects at the fundamental level has stayed with me to this day as a physician scientist. I am grateful to God to have known Dr Henry A Gore as teacher, friend and example. He blessed my family and me by traveling to my graduation from medical school and graduate. There he was simultaneously family and teacher. God bless and keep you Belinda and family. Orhan Kemal Oz and Mondrell Oz
Blessing to Dr. Belinda Campbell and the Dr. Henry Gore Family, It is with a heavy heart that I share my condolences and blessings on the loss of a wonderful man and disciple of God. As a former Morehouse College Mathematics Major, I had the honor to know Dr. Gore academically and personally as a esteemed professor, mentor and friend. He blessed my wife and I with attending our wedding over 30 years ago; what delight to have there. We all fed off of his passion for mathematics and life and his bright light will surely be missed. May he rest in Heaven and may his memories and impact continue to be felt with all the people he touched in a special way. God bless. Keith, Colette & Family

An excellent teacher who truly made Mathematics come to life. Rest in Heaven, Sir!
Dr. Gore made an immense impact on my life. From the Summer of 1991 through Spring of 1995, and beyond, he instilled in me a desire to seek excellence. In the classroom, learning became a fun endeavor. Outside the classroom, he was a great mentor. He was and always will be a legend in the halls of Dansby at Morehouse College and in the hearts of all who majored in Mathematics during his tenure.
