The Woman We Knew
Our mother was a woman full of life, warmth, and creativity. Once you met her, you never forgot her.
With a great sense of humor, she loved to laugh and to be around family and friends. She had a way of bringing joy to those around her and making everyone feel at ease.
She found true joy in being an art teacher and never missed an opportunity to share that gift with others. Whether in a classroom or during summers in Connecticut with neighborhood children, she found joy in helping others discover their creativity and express themselves.
On weekends, she took us on adventures, exposing us to culture and experiences that broadened our world.
Art and creativity were a part of who she was—they embodied her. It was at Spelman College where her love for art began, and a place she remained connected to throughout her life. It was also during this time that she met her future husband at Morehouse College.
Whether making a koi pond or creating a series of paintings dedicated to her love for Spelman, she expressed that creativity in ways that were both meaningful and lasting.
She also loved to entertain and host dinner parties, bringing people together with warmth and joy. She genuinely enjoyed getting to know people and made others feel welcome, seen, and valued.
She loved being a grandmother and took great joy in that role, sharing her warmth, creativity, and love across generations—including Clarke, Brandon, and Carson Davis.
After 97 years of life, love, and experience, what she leaves behind is more than memories, it is a feeling: a sense of warmth, creativity, and connection that will remain with all who knew her.
Deeply loved and forever remembered.

I'm thankful I was able to get to know Johnny even little at Corso. I recall that joyful spunky gleam in her eye and her love of music. She shared a few dances with me over the last couple years.
It's always hard to lose a loved one no matter what the age and circumstances. I'm praying for your family.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
