Obituary
Juliette Juanita Anthony Welch was born at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on July 17, 1937, to the late Robert Anthony, Sr., and the late Emma Mae Anthony. She was the second oldest overall, and the eldest daughter of ten (6 boys, 4 girls). Juliette was the mother of three children. Her firstborn, Indonesia, was raised in a multi-generational home with her aunts, uncles, and grandmother. Later, she married the late William Larry Welch and had two children: Marcus and Bridgette.
Juliette received her primary education at Gray Street Elementary. She attended Washington High School for a short period before transferring to and graduating from Turner High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Juliette was very athletic and played basketball at both Washington and Turner. All around, she was an outgoing person – a tough cookie who stood her ground in every situation. Juliette had a vibrant personality and was a magnet for people, which served her well in her long-standing career of service in the hospitality industry. She never met a stranger.
Juliette started her career at a young age at Perkins Grill then Techwood Soda Fountain. After marriage, she worked at Minute-Man Cleaners, Sandwich Chef and then Days Inn until her retirement. She was well-suited in the hospitality industry, receiving commendations for her excellent work. Additionally, Juliette was an entrepreneur, opening her own restaurant for a few years while continuing her work at Days Inn. She demonstrated to her children and grandchildren what it looks like to follow your dreams.
Juliette loved to sing. She developed a love for singing at an early age, singing for her grandmother at her church who as she quotes “only had one tune for whatever song she was singing”. She was baptized in her grandmother’s church and later joined Smyrna Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga under the pastorate of Rev. Langston. Juliette remained a member of Smyrna Baptist for many years and served as choir director of the C. L. Langston Gospel Choir during her tenure. Juliette loved God, with her whole heart. She had a prophetic way of speaking and if she said it, no matter what it was, it came to pass. She was an evangelist in her own right and knew how to warm up to others and share all that she knew and then some – even if they didn’t ask her. Juliette had a personality that caused people to migrate towards her, and nearly everyone had a nickname. She could talk and talk, and no matter where she was, she always had something to say. Juliette was a sharp dresser and loved to be with her family and friends. She was passionate about people with a genuine spirit and was genuinely loved in return.
Juliette was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Anthony, Sr., and Emma Mae Anthony; her five brothers, Jerome Drake, Luncy Drake, Samuel Anthony, Homa Key Anthony, and Robert Anthony, Jr. Juliette is survived by and leaves to cherish her memories and legacy her daughters, Dr. Indonesia Anthony, Bridgette Welch, her son Marcus Welch, her granddaughters, Brittany Wilson, Zuri Hicks (John) of Fort Worth, and Soponica Welch; great granddaughter, Kayden Ware, sisters Wilhelmeta Sims, Cynthia Denson (Fred), Trellis Jefferson (John), brother Rudisky Anthony, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
