Obituary For Mrs. Doris McBride Bailey

Viewing for Mrs. Doris M. Bailey will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Alfonso Dawson Mortuary. Family will be present from 5 to 7 pm.

Doris McBride Bailey Sept. 22, 1926 to May 26, 2021 Sassy, fiesty, outspoken, scared of no one, phenomenal teacher for Atlanta Public Schools, but to us she was momma, our provider, protector, friend, doctor, lawyer and confidant who loved us dearly and unconditionally. Doris was born in Hamlet, N.C., to Katie and Thomas McBride. She grew up in the areas of Hamlet and Monroe County N.C. She graduated from Hamlet High School, in Hamlet, N.C., and then after that attended and graduated from Fayetteville State Teachers College in Fayetteville, N.C. which is now an HBCU Fayetteville State University. Doris taught at L.O. Kimberly Elementary School among many others as a teacher and then permanent substitute teacher. Doris was also a Team Mother for her son's baseball team, enjoyed selling Avon, and travelling with her family. She was also a longtime member of Flipper Temple AME Church in Atlanta. Doris is predeceased by her husband Robert C. Bailey Sr., and her brother Thomas McBride Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Robert C. Bailey Jr (Shae), Weldon Andre Bailey, and her daughter Mia Angelita Bailey. She also leaves her sister Trulove Gilchrist, devoted cousins Patricia LeGrande and Janice Shepherd, nephews Reginald L. Smith Sr. (Renia), Kevin Bailey Sr. (Yvonne), Joey Gilchrist (Deborah), and David Gilchrist Sr.; Devoted friends of the family Trudy Taylor and Benny Jackson, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family and dear friends.
