Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Grant Chapman, 85, was held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2019 at Fuller’s, Funeral Home in Oakland, California. A private burial will be conducted on Wednesday October 30, 2019 at Mt Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Martin S.C.

Mary was born in Martin, S.C. on July 6, 1934 to the late Reverend Henry Franklin Grant Sr., and the late Elizabeth Johnson Grant. She was a woman who devoted her life to caring for and helping others. Mary graduated from Savannah State University and in the 1960's’she worked and marched with Martin Luther King Jr., Reverend Ralph Abernathy and many others dedicated people in the Civil Rights Movement. In 1970’s she moved to California and worked as a nurse in various facilities. In the 1990’s she starting working as the director of The Center for Aids Services. She received numerous awards and recognition for her services to the community. She retired at age 70 and begun being a full time neighborhood angel. She was a blessing to all who knew her.

Mrs. Chapman passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2019 at the Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, California.

She will continue to live in the hearts of her four children: Ouida Grant, Reginald Grant, Linda Grant and Anthony Grant; eleven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and extended family and friends who loved and admired her.

Fuller’s Funeral Home Oakland, California and Allendale Community Funeral Home were entrusted with arrangements.
