Obituary For Sharon Carter Summers

Funeral services for Sharon Carter Summers, 59, of Barnwell, SC formally of Fairfax, SC will be held 12:00 noon Friday, March 12, 2021 at Greater Faith Temple (COGIC) Fairfax, SC (outside service) with Elder Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mallet Cemetery.

Sharon C. Summers, beloved daughter of the late Rufus and Alma (Brown) Cater was born July 24, 1961 in Estill, South Carolina.

She was born into the Greater Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Fairfax, South Carolina. While attending, she was active on the Greater Faith Temple COGIC Adult Choir. After marriage, she then joined Mt. Joy Holiness Church in Ulmer, South Carolina. While attending she was active on the Mt. Joy Holiness Church Youth Choir. She also was the choir director of the Gospelettes. She later went back to Greater Faith Temple COGIC and became more involved into the church. She volunteered her services in whatever areas she was needed such as the kids ministry, housekeeping of the church, choir and special programs.

She was a graduate of Allendale-Fairfax High School. She attended Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina and she also attended Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

She was employed at Family Dollar as a shift manager in Denmark, South Carolina. After leaving Family Dollar, she was employed at Scotsman Ice Systems in Fairfax, South Carolina for over 15 years.

In 1980, she was joined into Holy Matrimony to James Edward Summers. This union was blessed with two children: Shalonda Summers and James Summers Jr.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her siblings: Carl Carter, Hattie Mae “Mable” Eady and Tony Carter. Her fond memories will always be with her daughter, Shalonda Summers of Barnwell, SC; son, James Summers Jr. of Williamston, SC; three grandchildren: Jacob Xavier White, Shaveria White, and A’jayla Summers; three sisters: Louella (Clarence Sr.) Housey, Emma Jean (James) Ginn and Ruth Ann (Gerald Sr.) Frazier all of Fairfax, SC; grandmother, Jesse Holland of Fairfax, SC; four sisters-in-law: Juliette (Artis) Alexander, Dell (Willie) Priester, Wanda (Ken) Thompson and Wanda Joyner; three brothers-in-law: JC (Annie) Summers, George Summers and Jerry Smalls; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. Mask must be worn at visitation and at the funeral service.
