Mrs. Annie Ruth Rumph, affectionately known as Ms. Ann, Annie, and Ruth was born on April 18, 1945 in Vienna, Dooly County, Georgia to the parents of the late Mr. Felton Hooks, Sr. and Mrs. Ethel Billings Hooks. Ruth was peacefully summoned home on Monday, February 20, 2023 after a brief illness and hospitalization at Newark Beth Isarel Hospital with many beloved family members by her bedside at the time of her passing. Annie lived in Vienna and attended Dooly County Schools. After leaving Vienna High School she went to Miami, Florida where she met Mr. Jimmy Roberts (and they were married soon after). In 1963 they migrated North to Brooklyn, New York in search of a better life. She was the quintessential housewife and cherished her only daughter (Sharome) whom she had a very close relationship with; but she dotted over her granddaughter Sashai (Shai Shai). After many years in Brooklyn she moved to Newark, NJ; there she met and Married her late husband Mr. Louie Rumph. Ms. Ann worked as a lead chef at Blessed Sacrament School from 2000 to 2011 where the students and staff enjoyed/cherished her signature delicious southern style dishes prepared with a ‘labor of love’ and were coveted by all (even after her retirement). Ms. Ann would entertain her family and friends with her cooking, sharp wit, memorable stories, and her dry humor. She was the unofficial residential Mayor of Clinton Place, Upper Clinton Hill in Newark where everyone knew her. She was always quick to offer friends or anyone in the neighborhood a plate of food or listen to and provide advice and/or assistance to the needy as they passed her home. Annie was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church of Newark where she regularly attended service. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; her siblings: Curtis Hooks, Felton Hooks, Jr., Arthur Hooks, Sr., and Larry Hooks, Sr. along with many other family members. Left to cherish her memories and to mourn her passing is her loving and devoted daughter Sharome (companion Michael) of Newark, NJ; granddaughters Sashai Roberts (fiancé Jamir) of Woodberry, NJ; and Elisha Jahnae Rumph and great grandson Ziere Josiah Rumph of Manhattan, NY; her siblings: Nathaniel (Ruby) Hooks, Sr., Wesley Hooks (Regina deceased), Mary Ann Smith (Eddie deceased) all of Cocoa, FL, Keena (Gerald) Lyons of Rockledge, FL, Judy Kingdom (Charles deceased) of Richmond, VA; Theodore (Reshon) Hooks, Las Vegas, NV; Laura (Billy) Grace, and Sheila (Eddie) Almond of Vienna, GA. Countless nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended relatives
