Mrs.Litha Hooks Beckles 76, of Cordele GA entered into eternal rest on Saturday January 23, 2021.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Litha Hooks Beckles 76, of Cordele GA will be held Saturday February 6, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. by immediate family only at the Vienna City Cemetery, Vienna Georgia. Public visitation will be held Friday February 5 from 4-6 p.m.
May 3, 1944 Litha Mae Hooks Beckles was born to Otha B Hooks and Zettie Singleton Hooks, she was their 7th and youngest child. She spent her childhood years in Vienna, Georgia and educated in the Dooly County School System, after moving to Tampa, Florida she continued her education at Hillsborough Community College. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society of Tampa Bay and Lions Club of Cordele, Georgia. Ms Beckles relocated to Tampa, Florida where she continued her Christian walk when she joined First Baptist Church of Progress Village. She began working in various positions in the medical field, from CNA to Central Supply, at Tampa General and Brandon Regional Hospital. After raising her 5 children to adulthood and an early retirement, she spent 15 more years opening her home and heart to over 100 children as a Foster Parent of Tampa, Florida. This loving and respected mothers’ surviving son and 3 daughters: Kalvosia Hooks (Sandra), Angela Gilmore (JC), Kymberly Hessing (David), Verna Lewis (Russell), were very devastated of her unexpected passing, are relying heavily on the Lord for strength to make it through. Ms Beckles was preceded in death by her parents: Otha and Zettie Hooks; Husband: Irvin Beckles, Brothers: Robert Hooks, Samuel Hooks; Sisters: Doris Hooks Stephens, Ruth Hooks Christopher; Her youngest son: Stanley Gilmore Sr, and granddaughter: Kiana Malia McLendon they all will be waiting for her at the golden gates as she receives her wings. Left to cherish memories of her is her sisters Hattie M Hooks and Lula Jones (Clarence); brother: Apostle Otha B Lockett (Martha); Grandchildren: Marcus Truewell, Mija Gilmore, Urshela Morris, Calvin Lewis, Shenika McLaughlin, Tehran Hooks, Benjare’ McLendon, Stanley Gilmore Jr, LeAngelo Wilkerson, Milaina Clayton, Tyler Hooks, Odeon Hessing, Mark Gilmore, Trevor Hooks, Rashidi Lucas, Devon Clarke, Rosby Anderson Jr, Tashika Hessing, Staevan Gilmore, Kymberly Robinson Lewis, Marcus Gilmore, Alyssia Robinson Lewis, Mellissa Hessing, Stacey Cornier (granddaughter which she adopted), 45 Great Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Sister Litha was an inspiration to many. I loved to hear her share stories about her aspiration for writing a book or a play. She wanted to make a statement about her life to be remembered. She was loved by many and I truly commend her for ALL the lives she touched. I will miss you Sister.

Kal and Sandra and the entire bereaved family: We pray for your comfort and strength during this difficult time of separation. Her life was so full of joy, peace and happiness and will be remembered for years to come. She was so self-less as she cared for so many others- adults and children alike. I met Mrs. Litha in Vienna Ga. through my job. She would always come see me if she had questions about something. She was so Kind, Full Of Life & Out Going. She would always call me her Granddaughter (Figure of Speech). She will be Dearly missed...To the Family Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
