MRS. ROSA LEE LEWIS LAWSON was born on August 5, 1934, in Manatee, Florida, to the late William Lewis and Eliza King Lewis. She received her early education in Florida and went on to pursue higher learning, attending Gibbs Junior College, Florida A&M University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education, and later Fort Valley State University, where she earned her Master’s in Education.
Mrs. Lawson dedicated over 30 years of service as an educator at Unadilla Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students with her passion for teaching and nurturing spirit. Her Christian journey began at Turner Chapel AME Church in Palmetto, Florida. Upon relocating to Georgia, she became a faithful member of Mt. Zion CME Church in Vienna, Georgia, and in her later years, she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Unadilla, Georgia, where she served devotedly as a Deaconess.
On July 1973, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Arthur Lawson, Sr. Together, they built a loving home grounded in faith and family values. Mrs. Lawson was deeply committed to her community and youth. She served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and as the Youth Director of the Georgia Union Missionary Baptist Association for many years. She also shared her beautiful voice in various church choirs, praising God through song.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Lawson, Sr., her son, Curtis Lamar Lawson, and her siblings: William Lewis II “Honey Boy,” Ozella Lewis Russell “Honey Girl,” Marie Lewis Hardy, Steve Lorenzo Lewis, Cenia Lewis Brown, Enoch Lewis, Louise Lewis Boyd, Eloise Lewis White, and Maggie Lee Lewis Wilson.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a loving and devoted daughter, Josephine Lawson (Sule) Salami of Kathleen, Georgia; daughters Eloise Spivey of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Patricia Brown of Kathleen, Georgia; and son Arthur Lawson, Jr. of Unadilla, Georgia. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law. Susie Henry of Unadilla, Georgia; Viola Adams of Unadilla, Georgia; Mae Dorothy (Franklin) Jordan of Unadilla, Georgia; Virgie Talley of Macon, Georgia; Helen Bizzell of Elizabeth, New Jersey, and Edna Ruth Lawson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her devoted niece Rosalind (Sydney) White, who held a special place in her heart. Her life was one of faith, service, and love and the impact of her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
