My condolences & prayers are with the Boynton family Andre you will truly be missed by your Hargraves family. Marie D.
We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Andre' and Coach Boynton. Our coaches, players and parents spent many Friday's and weekends playing basketball at Hargraves. Mr. Andre' was always kind, but he was also firm. Not only did he keep our children in line, but also the parents. We all liked and respected Mr. Andre'. Coach Boyton also touched most of our children either through track or being students at Hillside. Between the two of them, there are thousands of lives they touched and influenced. Both constantly giving back to the community as public servants to the children of Durham and Chapel Hill and any other child fortunate enough to cross paths with them. It is our hope that in time you will find comfort in knowing the enormous impact they had on so many. Sincerely, RDC Lakers Family
Dear Coach Carla's Family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of your mom and dad. Please know that our heart and prayers are with your family during this incredibly difficult time.
Coach Carla was such a special part of the Durham Striders community and played a meaningful role in our son, Caleb's life. For nearly twelve years, she was one of the coaches who helped shape his experience in track. What I will always remember most is her wonderful sense of humor and the way she made practice fun, especially when working with the relays. She had a gift for bringing out the best in young athletes while making them feel supported, encouraged, and confident in themselves.
Many people knew Coach Carla as an exceptional coach, but she was also an extraordinary athlete. As a student at Northern Durham High School, she set the North Carolina state meet record in the 100 meters with a time of 11.7 seconds in 1983βa record that stood for many years and cemented her place among the great sprinters in our state's history.
The Durham Striders will not be the same without her presence. She helped build a community where young athletes learned not only how to compete, but how to support one another, work hard, and have fun doing it. Her spirit will live on in every relay exchange, every starting block, and every athlete who steps onto the track carrying forward the lessons she shared.
My family is deeply grateful that God, and your family, shared so much of Coach Carla's time, talent, and heart with the Durham Striders community. Because of her dedication, Caleb and hundreds of other athletes were able to grow, learn, and thrive under her guidance.
Her legacy will live on for generations of athletes to come.
With deepest sympathy, love and gratitude, Coach Sonya, Harry and Caleb Stephens

Condolences to both families. I will remember Coach Carla for her dedication and work with my son who was a member of the Durham Striders Track team. I remember when he was about 7 or 8 years old (he is 17 now), she worked with him and others to practice and get ready for their events. This was about 8 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. She was a sweet person and enjoyed her work as a Strider Coach at that time. Rest in peace Coach Carla and husband.

Carla will be remembered for her radiant smile, engaging spirit and being one of the greatest ambassadors of track for both Durham and North Carolina. Everyone loved her and she beamed as she shared how much she loved her husband, Andre and her children. I last saw her at one of our Track Legends lunches and she was the star, even among state, national and international stars. I was blessed to witness her greatness as an assistant coach at Nothern Durham, when the electrified the crowd by leading the Knights to the state championships and as our featured speaker at the Little Sports Academy at Bennett College.
As the old song say: We'll understand by and by.
