Obituary For Anna Catherine Frick Snyder

Anna Catherine Frick Snyder died peacefully on February 10, 2026 in Durham, NC at the age of 87. She was born May 29, 1938 in Columbia, SC to Jacob Harvey Frick and Catherine Hackney Frick. She was educated in the public schools of Greenwood, SC and graduated from Duke University School of Nursing. She then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College and a master’s degree from the University of Southern Maine.

For twenty years she was married to John N. Snyder, Jr. while he attended Lutheran divinity school and served as minister to parishes in South Paris, ME and Attleboro, MA. She spent the final twenty years of her nursing career with the Department of Veterans Affairs, working in several states. She retired from nursing and moved to Durham, NC in 1999.

Anna was a lifelong Lutheran and always an active church member in congregations in South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire and North Carolina. She served on many church councils, invited refugee and foreign students into her home for meals and celebration, taught Sunday School, visited shut-ins, brought communion to those who could not attend church, contributed to countless potlucks, and generally said, "yes" whenever anyone asked for a volunteer.

She loved music, reading, and art and supported cultural organizations through subscriptions for attendance at performances and exhibits wherever she lived. She supported Lutheran camps and was proud to be in the first group of campers to attend summer camp at Lutheridge in Arden, NC when she was 13. She sent her children to Camp Calumet Lutheran in Freedom, NH, served as nurse there for several summers, and treasured all her camping memories.

Anna is survived by her daughter Cynthia Snyder of Durham (Charles Fennimore), her son Stephen Snyder of Amesbury, MA (Robert Martin), her daughter Amy Snyder of Louisa, VA and grandchildren Diana Fennimore, Eva Fennimore, Samuel Shull, Anna Shull, Evelyn Dickinson and great-granddaughter Kezyah Fennimore. She is also survived by her sister Sara Russell of Greenwood, SC. Anna’s family is grateful to the staff of Pruitt Health Carolina Point who cared for Anna, her roommate Rachel, and her companion, Melissa.

A funeral for Anna will be held in May at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Durham.
