Mrs. Bernice Hart Jones, was born September 24, 1945 in Durham, North Carolina. She transitioned January 10, 2026 at her home.
Bernice was a devoted mother, grandmother, cousin, nurse, and friend whose life was defined by love, service, and generosity. While she brought six children into the world, her motherhood extended far beyond the birth of her children, and her heart made room for many more. Instilling in them resilience, compassion, and the importance of caring for others. Her strength and determination was unmatched, and the love for her family knew no limits.
She proudly served as a nurse graduating from Watts School of Nursing in Durham. Dedicating her career to caring for others. Bernice was one of the last generations of LPN nurses permitted to work in labor and delivery & NICU at Duke University Medical Center, a role she carried with immense pride and purpose. She welcomed countless lives into the world and cared for children with the same tenderness she showed her own family. She ended her career in Pediatrics retiring from Lincoln Community Health Center.
Bernice brought laughter, warmth, light and wisdom wherever she went. Her home and her heart were always open. She would give the shirt off her back to help anyone in need and never hesitated to lend support to those who asked. Her generosity extended far beyond her immediate circle, as she faithfully donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, reflecting her deep compassion for children and families facing hardship.
She was a beloved grandmother to many, each one holding a special place in her heart. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the family she built, and the love she shared so freely.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She now rests in heaven, reunited with “her honey”, where we trust she is at peace still watching over those she loved so dearly.
A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, January 18, 2026, 3:00 pm at Glennview Memorial Park in Durham.
