Bobby “Pops” Riggs of Oxford, NC passed away peacefully at his residence on February 11, 2025. He is Preceded in death by: Son – Kevin W Riggs; Parents – Howard James Riggs & Maxine Pope Riggs; Sisters- Sadie Riggs Teasley, Betty Riggs Copeland; Brothers – Jimmy Riggs, George Riggs.
He is survived by brother Jack (Ella) Riggs, Son – Andy (Shawna) Riggs, Grandchildren – Joey (Amanda) Thompson, Scott Riggs, Kevin Riggs Sr, Cameron Riggs, Danika Thompson-Riggs. Great Grandchildren – Alaina Thompson, Kevin Riggs Jr, Bristol Thompson.
Bobby was born and raised in Durham County until 9 years ago when he moved to Granville County. He was residing in Oxford where he was cared for by family. He graduated from Durham High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1967. He served a tour in Vietnam where he was a sergeant. He was Honorably Discharged on July 12, 1970. He met Janie and married on October 3, 1972. They had two sons Andy and Kevin. He mostly had jobs driving trucks. Bobby was the life of the party no matter where he was at. People who know him would say he may be a little instigator. He was full of knowledge and if he didn’t know he would make it sound believable.
He has 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter whom adore him and all of his stories. He had a rough last year, but he was happiest when his 3 great grandkids came to visit. That is exactly who he had around him in his final days. He was telling stories and enjoying his time. He will be greatly missed by so many friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 22, 2025 at 5586 Shelton Creek Rd. Oxford, NC 27565. Donations, plants and flowers can be sent to same address.
Uncle Bobby you were such a great all around human being you will truly be missed. I cherish the great times we had. I use to spend my summer vacations with everyone in Durham. And I would go with you on your Pepsi routes.
Uncle Bobby, you were a good hardworking man, and I always loved you RIP now! You have a healed body now enjoy all our loved ones up there!
