In Loving Memory of the Matriarch of our family
Bonnie Rose Ellis, 56, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 9:25 a.m. at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Her passing was the result of a unfortunate heart attack (cardiac arrest).
Bonnie was born on April 25, 1969, in Durham, North Carolina. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose love for her family was evident in all she did. She found joy in sea turtles, spending time at the beach, and most of all, loving and caring for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Maggie and Kyndall Ellis of Durham, North Carolina; Michael Brian Ellis Jr. of Durham, North Carolina, Katie Ellis of Rougemont, North Carolina, and Christopher Michael Griffith of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Bonnie is also survived by her life partner Christopher L. Griffith of Fayetteville, North Carolina,
brother Jamie Burcham of Durham North Carolina, sister, Sharron/Ron McCormack of Jacksonville, Florida; her brother, Timothy/Sevi Long of Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Her legacy lives on through her beloved grandchildren; including Makayla Perry, Mason Gurry, Kaydyn Ellis, Brooklyn Ellis, Richard Ellis, Aubree Gurry, Kynzee Ellis, Leo Logner, and Justine Hunter Wallace Logner Jr., whose lives she touched deeply.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband; Michael Brian Ellis of Durham, North Carolina; her parents, Shirley and Larry Laws of Timberlake, North Carolina; and her father-in-law, Mickey Wendell Ellis of Durham, North Carolina.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Oak Grove Ruritan Club on June 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Guests are welcome to wear optional formal attire. Family members have requested the colors black and red.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those attending bring a potluck dish to share following the memorial service.
Bonnie will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to family, and the love she freely shared with everyone around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
