Obituary For Elvina Braswell

Mrs. Elvina Ann (Timberlake) Braswell, 80, a resident of Durham, North Carolina passed December 18, 2023.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, 12:00 noon at American Cremation & Funeral Service.

Elvina Ann Timberlake Braswell, was born on Thursday, May 13, 1943, in Oxford, North Carolina, to the late Guthrien Brodie and William Timberlake. “Elvina” as she was fondly known, transitioned peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the home of her daughter, LaShawn; with daughters LaShawn and Tammie by her side, and her granddaughter, Lil Shawn.

Elvina was educated in the Granville County School system. She would later move to Durham, North Carolina, where she settle into her community and became well-loved. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and employed with B & R Janitorial Services for 14 years.

She was a very loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Her love for her family was unconditional. She was affectionally known to many as the “Icee Lady” of East Durham for 36 years. She loved caring for children and spent a great deal of her life babysitting for others, as well as her own siblings and grandchildren. Some of her most lovable treasures were sewing, gardening, cooking (and let us not forget those delicious pork skins she would make); and providing for her family. She was never one to sit idle doing nothing, as she was always up and about, a mover and a shaker…getting things done. She had the magic touch for gardening (whether it was vegetables or flowers). She was always busy in some aspect or another, never waiting for anyone to get her to where she needed to be, as she would walk at the drop of a dime. She was strong-willed and determined; and she fought and stayed strong until God called her home. She was truly an awesome and loving woman, and would do anything for anyone within her power (feeding and clothing many in her community).

Her husband, French Richard Braswell; her mother and father, Guthrien and William Timberlake; her brothers, William Morris Timberlake, Frank Eugene Timberlake, James McClinton Timberlake; her sister, Doris Burton; and her grandson, Torrey Devon Price, precede her in death.

Elvina leaves to cherish her memories, nine children: Catherine Timberlake, Blanch Robins, James Rickey Timberlake, French Donnell Braswell, Patrick Fitzgerald Braswell, Elnora Price (Raleigh), Tammie Larose Spain (Tony), Aretha Braswell King (William), and LaShawn Braswell (LaShawn McDaniel); seventeen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George Timberlake; and a special daughter, Angela Gaddy.

To the family and friends of Mrs. Braswell always cherish the fond memories of time spent together and although you may grieve the Bible can be a source of comfort. At (Revelation 21:3,4) it speaks of a time when there will be no more sickness or death, also at (Acts 24:15) it speaks of a resurrection that we all can look forward to. May the peace and love of the God of all comfort be with you all. Comfort can be found in our Creator through prayer and through his word the Bible and in our Savior Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Braswell or mom as I I always called her when I saw her was a great person and had a great spirit. Such a sweet and loving women of God. She will truly be missed. Rest easy Angel. I love you Family

What a beautiful giving. Elvina taught me so much about gardening and plants. She gave me a piece of a plant that grew into a beautiful house plant. About I referred her to employment which she worked with proud. She was always busy. What a blessing to know her. 🙏 for the family. Lender
