Obituary For Emmett McGhee

Mr. Emmett Felton McGhee 90, of Durham passed away on August 4, 2022 at Hillcrest Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by beloved family.

Emmett was born September 20, 1931, in Durham County, to the late Elvis L. McGhee Sr. and Eura Keith Riley. Emmett owned and operated McGhee Carpet Service until his retirement in 1990.

Emmett was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Doris Turner McGhee; brothers, E.L. (Possum) McGhee Jr., Richard H. (Monk) McGhee, Tommy Tilley; stepbrother, Melvin Walker; sister, Eura Elizabeth (Liz) McGhee; and stepsister, Mamie W. McGhee.

Emmett is survived by sisters, Carolyn T. Hancock of Durham, Rebecca (Punk) Walker, of Durham, Deborah M. Williams, (Tom) of Raleigh; brother, Paul A. McGhee, of Durham; stepsister, Virginia W. (Doodle) Taylor, (Doug) of Staley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Lynn’s Crossroads Ruritan, 4410 Carpenter Pond Road, Durham, by Rev. Phillip Adams. Visitation will be held immediately following the service.
