Gary C. Scheidt, 83, of Bear Creek, NC passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at Hospice House in Pittsboro, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Violet Scheidt.
He leaves behind his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Louise Ramsdell Scheidt, sons; Scott (Denise) of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Brett (Dot) of Bear Creek, NC, grandchildren; Jake, Will, Riley, Tannin, Emily and Zoey, and brother Ken (Judy) and sisters; Candace and Melissa (Robert).
Born in Cincinnati, OH, Gary was a 1960 graduate of Wyoming, Ohio High School. A 1964 graduate of Hanover College, he then graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati with a Master of Educational Administration.
Gary worked as a teacher and coach in the Mt. Healthy and Finney town School Districts from 1964 to 1973. While teaching, he developed a program for children with motor skill issues. He was a member of the Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department and was an EMT. He coached a Babe Ruth baseball team, which ended second in the state in 1968.
He moved to Vero Beach, FL where he owned an underground utility business and then went to work for a REIT as the National Safety Director and National Construction Manager. He completed his career developing property in Garner, NC, Cherry Hill, NJ and Vero Beach, FL.
In Vero Beach, Gary was a member of the Community Church, serving on the Board of Trustees and as a Sunday School Teacher. He served on the city’s Code Enforcement Board and as chair of the city’s recreation committee. He was president of the Cambridge Park HOA. He was a member of Operation Play Ball, supporting the LA Dodgers’ minor league team.
Gary loved baseball and coached Mighty Mites, minor, little and senior leagues as well as a semi-pro baseball team. He also coached the St. Edward’s baseball team.
